Welcome basketball players and guests!
On behalf of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Canton, OH, and Massillon Lodge Nikola Tesla #223, and Canton Lodge St. George #143, and the SNF Basketball Commitee, we welcome all the basketball players and guests to the 72nd Annual Serbian National Federation Basketball Tournament.
It has been 45 years since we last hosted the basketball tournement in 1966. Our people still love to gather to participate in sports and social events, to meet and greet old friends and establish new friendship. The basketball tournament has always been a great place to renew aquaintences.
Our committees and volunteers have worked with dedication to plan and organize a successful tournament. It is our sincere hope that the many players, coaches, managers and spectators will conduct themselves with pride, decency and discretion. Let us not mar our image with indecent or distructive behavior at any of the venues.
We wish to thank SNF president Peter Borhovich and SNF athletic director John Buffalini for all their guidance and assistance in helping us make this the best tournament ever!
We would like to dedicate this tournament to the late John Costello and the late George Evans of our community. John coached and played in many basketball tournaments. He led the Senior Massillon/Canton Women to their 1st champion- ship in 1970. He also coached the Senior Massillon/Canton Men's team to a national title in 1978. George Evans helped our Church's very first team, Junior Boys, raise money and also participated in the tournament of 1960.
